Angels

Angels (by Eileen Hammond of 'Dawn Chorus')

Anges are quite rare - you can't pick them from a shelf
Angels think of others more than of themselves
Angels are all round us and not just up above
They have kind hearts and give us unconditional love
We all knew an angel and she loved to sing
She gave so much to others but never took a thing
She would visit the sick, take presents and flowers
She baked cakes, sent cards and gave up many hours
Maureen was our secretary and booked most of our shows
She was dedicated, hard-working, kind and a pleasure to know
But she wasn't afraid to state her point of view
Often at rehearsal she would say a word or two
"That last concert - we missed our cue again" and
"We need more microphones - I still can't hear the men!"
But that was part of her charm and ours too
We know we're not perfect but we love what we do
We'll sing loud and proud for Maureen but if we should go wrong
I am sure she will forgive us and just say "carry on".

(this poem is written in memory of our dear friend Maureen Nuckey)
